The Attractions
The Land Rover 101 Forward Control was born as an 'artillery tractor', with a compact body, short overhangs and, above all, capable of transporting a tonne of materials almost anywhere. These qualities of mobility and robustness later led to it also being used as an ambulance and radio communications vehicle.
This 1977 101FC was used as an ambulance by the British Army and was later decommissioned. The seller bought it in 2017 and began a complete restoration that lasted four years, transforming it into the fantastic off-grid motorhome we can admire today. The aluminium bodywork was handcrafted, the mechanics were overhauled, the 3.9-litre Rover V8 engine was completely rebuilt and this Land Rover was fitted with a very comprehensive and high-quality equipment. The list of its features and equipment, which include what is needed to make it usable off-grid, is impressive.
The vehicle never served in the UK Army, it was stationed at a NATO base in Germany
Can be driven with a normal drivers licence
Acquired by the current owner around 2017
Converted into a motorhome between 2017 and 2021
Currently registered in Prato, Italy, with Italian papers
It is accompanied by documentation on the construction process, spare parts, Land Rover publications and detailed photographic documentation of the project
Odometer shows 1,400 km and was reset to zero after conversion; actual mileage is unknown
The seller estimates that it has covered approximately 4,500 km since it was rebuilt
Typewritten list of construction specifications shown in the photos and included in the documentation
