The Attractions
Based on the unique platform of the 2CV, light and versatile, the Méhari was named after a very fast dromedary, which was still being used for racing and by caravans when this car was presented. And this name seems particularly appropriate: while not an extreme performance car, this little off-roader was surprisingly fast and capable off-road. It proved to be a car perfectly at home in the role of both dune buggy and military vehicle, and an excellent companion for leisure time adventures.
This 1977 example underwent a complete and thorough restoration that was completed in 2021 and was much more thorough than usual. The bodywork, in fact, made of coloured, unpainted plastic, is completely new and was inspired by the coveted Méhari Azur, with white bodywork and contrasting blue roof.
Reportedly a truly excellent car, very pleasant to drive and in excellent shape in every respect, this charming French classic is certainly one of the best examples we have ever had the opportunity to admire.
History and Documentation
- First registered in 1977
- Purchased by the current owner in 2018
- Immediately after purchase it underwent restoration; work was completed in 2021
- Last service with fluid change carried out approx. 12 months / 300 km ago, with oil change (Total 20W60) and oil filter
- Overhaul valid until September 2025
- Registered with the Italian Automotoclub Storico Italiano
Condition
- Completely restored with new bodyshell, complete new soft top and new upholstery
- The bodywork is made of coloured plastic using innovative technology, not painted fibreglass
- Because of this, there is no layer of paint that can be scratched or chipped, and the body is extremely solid
- All metal components have been sandblasted and protected with anti-corrosive treatments before painting
- Virtually new interior with minor imperfections visible on some original components, such as the steering wheel and rear-view mirror
- Audio system with 4 speakers, Bluetooth hands-free, USB, streaming and radio with antenna
- Radio antenna is concealed in the windscreen frame and is not retractable
- Stainless-steel rear door locks of nautical derivation
- The cockpit heating system has been removed

- 4-speed manual gearbox
- The engine compartment appears to be in excellent condition
- Engine and gearbox have been thoroughly maintained and many components have been replaced
- New electronic coil, alternator and voltage regulator
- Braking system converted from LHM to DOT4 (disc brake version)
