The Appeal
The Morris Eight’s rugged reliability and fashionable transatlantic styling made it a huge success. The Series II didn’t mess with the formula, these later cars being most readily identifiable by their painted radiators. For vintage enthusiasts, these simple, charismatic cars have perennial appeal.
This pretty black and maroon Series II was restored by specialist Moorland Classic Cars in 2000 at what we are told was a cost then of about £20,000. The vendor’s father acquired it in 2018 because he had one in his youth. It has been very sparingly used since and required little work. The most notable investment is the addition of a set of chrome-capped wheels to replace the previous wires (that are also included with the car).
The lovely colour scheme is complemented by a fetching burgundy leather cabin. Inside and out it is in really good condition, a testament to that high end renovation. The car has been little used since 2018 so may require a few checks before you hit the 2026 show circuit. However, the battery has been recently charged; the dashpot oil topped up; and the car will be serviced on 19th November 2025 by a SU carburettor specialist mechanic.
The vendor says:
“My late father bought the car very soon after my mother died in July 2018. Why? Because a 1938 (the year my late mother was born) Morris 8 was the first car my father owned that worked, which my parents used before they were married!
“He had hoped to 'tinker' with it, but his age and increasing infirmity prevented him from enjoying either lavishing TLC on the car or driving much (he became increasingly anxious of people driving modern cars who didn't appreciate how long pre-war cars took to stop!)”

The vendor says:
“There are a number of MOT certificates (no longer required, of course) with, frankly, some inconsistent information. However, the latest MOT certificate is for a test conducted on 14 July 2017 when the recorded mileage was 93,255. I'm almost certain my father didn't drive 283 miles while the car was in his ownership, but I have no record of any mileage between 17 July 2017 and 31 July 2018. The odometer reading now is 93,538.”
