The Appeal
The DB6 was the car that put Aston Martin firmly on the map. A more spacious four-seat cabin, larger boot and modern ‘Kamm Tail’ styling made it hugely appealing for ‘60s celebrities and rich buyers seeking a comfortable, high-speed way to cover long distances.
Just 1,327 ‘Mk1’ cars like this one were built. It was first registered in 1967 and is beautifully finished in optional rare Alveston Red metallic, which makes a beguiling alternative to the more common silvers. Inside, there is a complementary tan leather cabin. It is all in extremely good condition, the result of a combination of its four careful keepers and the ministrations of specialists like Alan Smith Motors (ASM) and Aston Service Dorset (ASD).
The car spent many years with its second keeper, a well-known AMOC member, before joining a collection from 2012 to 2021. The vendor acquired the car in 2021. We are told that ASM extensively renovated the car between 2008 and 2009, at a cost then of £28,000, equivalent to £46,000 now. The work included bodywork repairs, cavity wax injection and undersealing. It was also fitted with a desirable Harvey Bailey handling kit and received a 5spd ZF manual gearbox in place of the factory automatic unit.
In 2021, it went to ASD for over £5,000 of engine and mechanical renovations. It has been very sparingly used since.
The quality of the older renovations is impressive, as you can see from the panel shut lines and paint finish. The interior is in lovely condition, carrying a really gentle patina that adds further character.
With its condition, provenance, specification and colour scheme, this is a really impressive and tempting example of Aston’s icon.

This DB6’s pretty burgundy metallic red paintwork is an opportunity to admire anew the handsome lines of this Kamm-tailed 60s GT. It was a rare option, since most left the works in silver, and we think it really suits the car. The body shows the benefit of ASM’s skills, in particular the flush panel fit and even, well-finished paintwork. A cavity wax injection and undersealing process on completion of that work has significantly contributed to the current condition.
Inside there is a complementary tan leather cabin with matching carpets. The cabin is unmodified and features a wood-rimmed factory wheel and a period radio. There is a lovely, gentle patina to the trim that elevates this characterful car over a ‘box fresh’ restoration.

Tadek Marek’s straight six is one of classic motoring’s absolute gems, a powerful, sonorous unit that set Aston Martin on the path to modern glory. This car is now fitted with a desirable 5spd ZF gearbox that was rebuilt by BPA and fitted by ASM during the 2008 work. That process also included adding the sought-after Harvey Bailey handling kit that transforms the agility of the DB6.
In 2021, the car was entrusted to Aston Service Dorset (ASD) for engine work. Since then, it has been used very sparingly and is understood to be in fine mechanical health.
