The Appeal
Wedgy styling, peppy slant-four engines, comfortable, spacious cabins, and a good-sized boot all explain why the TR7 is experiencing a well-deserved, albeit belated, renaissance. These cars are compelling alternatives to older British classics.
For enthusiasts, this is the kind of car you want to find. It is an extremely low-mileage 2.0-litre Coupé which the vendor tells us has covered 11,012 miles from new. The history file appears to support this. We are told that it has never been restored. It has been in the same family for 40 years, owned by the seller's great uncle, grandfather and father during which time it has always been garaged. The result is a very well-preserved car with a remarkably well-preserved green checkcloth interior. The original white paintwork has been complemented by a bespoke burgundy metallic finish with gold pinstripes, evoking the TR7 Coca-Cola special edition and Starsky and Hutch.
The car is fitted with the rare 3spd automatic gearbox and factory Webasto-style folding sunroof and appears to have led a gentle life. The history file dates back to the first registration and includes the original bill of sale, British Leyland paperwork, and correspondence. There are plenty of MOTs and a record of mileage to verify the mileage. The car has an MOT and is tax-exempt by age and has covered a few miles since the last advisory-free test. This car looks very rewarding, and a potential car show visitor magnet.
