På en färd genom Suffolk 1984 fann Bentley:s teknikdirektör Mike Dunne att sin Mulsanne Turbo helt övertogs av en Ford Escort. Med ledningens motstånd beslöt han att ge firmans stora SZ-sedanhastighet den kurvförmåga som kunde matcha kraften i raksträckan. Den resulterande Turbo R uppnådde precis det. Bentley förväntade sig få sålda, men drivna av hyllande pressrecensioner blev den företagets största säljare.

Senare bilar som denna fick en effektökning till 328 bhp och några stylingförändringar, inklusive den klassiska kvintetten av strålkastare. Denna 1990 Turbo R är avslutad i den sällsynta kombinationen Vermillion över Magnolia-läder med St James Red piping och övre läderpaneler. Det är en bil med låg körsträcka och med ett särskilt stort historikarkiv. Den kommer att säljas med ny MOT.
