The Appeal

In the Nineties and Noughties, manufacturers discovered the superfast wagon. While Germany took the cubic capacity route, Subaru, naturally, went for rally-inspired brilliance. The Legacy wagon was then and is now one of the greatest sporting estates ever built.

There are many flavours of quick Legacy, but the factory JDM Spec B WR Limited has to be one of the best. Inspired by the rally cars and finished in World Rally Pearl Blue with gold alloys, these are distinctive cars. They are quick too, nudging 280bhp in standard form. All planted to the tarmac, of course, by AWD.

This rare manual gearbox 2004 Legacy GT Spec B WR Limited remained in Japan, on the nation’s salt-free roads, until 2016 when it arrived in the UK. It looks standard, but runs a series of sympathetic upgrades that make it quicker and better to drive. Key amongst these are Tein Flex Z coilovers, Impreza brakes and an Exedy Stage 1 clutch.

The history file shows a lot of recent work undertaken by well-regarded specialists. Most notably the engine was rebuilt at considerable expense in 2023. We’re told that it has been regularly serviced, mostly recently 1,000 miles ago, and only ever run on unleaded by the current keeper. The MOT runs to October 2026 with a single advisory regarding a loud exhaust. But surely you’d want nothing less on a car like this.
