The Appeal
Honda’s bid for stand-out in the busy touring market resulted in this remarkable bike, the CBX1000. Equipped with a 6-cylinder 1,047cc 105bhp engine, it gave buyers something entirely new. Good examples are sought after and make very comfortable touring bikes.
This USA-market 1979 CB1000 is the Sport model with a square-section mono shock swing arm rear to allow a larger rear wheel. The vendor is in 2022 to fulfil a long-term itch. Back then, it was in a poor state. He set about rectifying a series of questionable modifications, largely returning the factory specification with some minor, desirable enhancements. The work included a respray in attractive burgundy metallic, fitting a new seat and tail unit and reconstructing the rear. Other work includes a desirable alternator conversion and fitting new coils. There is also a sonorous 6-into-1 Delkevic exhaust and a smaller front mudguard. A set of replica Italian exhaust pipes and a correct front guard are included, as are the USA-specification handlebars.
The vendor advises that the carburettors could do with a tune-up, but that the bike is perfectly usable ‘as is.’ Here’s a chance to discover one of classic biking’s most unusual tourers, where someone else has put in all the hard graft.
