The Appeal
Everything about the Buick Super screams American mid-century luxury. That long-nosed profile, waterfall grille - even the rather muscular-looking Ventiports in its sides. All of those lashings of brightwork and rounded, quintessential Yankee lines make for a car with a sumptuous presence, setting the model apart from many of its contemporaries, ably aided by the smooth-running and remarkably quiet straight-eight powerplant - one of the last cars to carry that imposing lump under its bonnet.
Just 2,500 examples were produced, and this is believed to be the sole survivor in the UK.
Known affectionately as 'Betsy,' this car was imported from Illinois in 1988 by the current vendor - the son of a UK distributor for Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, who grew up around these cars in post-war London. UK-registered in March 1989, she was soon spotted by a 'talent scout' and became a star of Nick Mason's Fleetwood Classic Limousines, spending 25 years ferrying celebrities and wedding parties around West London, including Take That after their first Top of the Pops appearance in 1992. Retired to West Wales in 2016, Betsy has remained in the vendor's devoted care throughout.
Over the decades, the vendor has invested considerably in keeping Betsy in fine fettle. Significant mechanical work has included an engine rebore, gearbox rebuild, new brakes and a new exhaust system, while a body re-spray and front bumper re-chrome were carried out in 2026.
