The Appeal
After the war, Italy was in the midst of a great rebuilding effort, and part of the requirements was a bread basket. The country's rural communities and land needed to be revitalised, and with fuel shortages ruling much of Europe, it was an uphill battle. There was very little petrol, but diesel fuel - stockpiled for the country's essential infrastructure - was still available.
Ferruccio Lamborghini, long before he started experimenting with supercars, noticed that the British military had left an awful lot of engines about, and got to work adapting them. A lot of the detritus was built up of simple, utilitarian Morris 6-cylinder blocks, and he quickly realised he could cut these up and build them into two-cylinder diesel plants. This successful little enterprise laid down the foundations for his later empire.
This tractor is particularly special. Produced in 1953, it's one of the earlier DL25 tractors out there. Having undergone a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration, it's also a particularly handsome one that's ready and waiting for its lucky new owner.
