The Appeal
Marketed in period as the "family car that wins races", the Alfa Romeo 1900 was not your average family saloon. Thanks to its twin-cam engine, the 1900 punched well above its weight, and its well-balanced chassis and neutral handling characteristics create a sporting saloon that excelled on both road and track. The 1900s, therefore, took part in the numerous competitions in their day, including the Targa Florio and Mille Miglia. The 1900 was significant in other ways too: It was Alfa's first unibody car built entirely on a production line, paving the way for all the Milanese firm's subsequent models.
This 1955 example is the more powerful Super Berlina, distinguished by an enlarged engine from 1884 cc to 1975 cc. This boosted the standard Berlina's horsepower from 80 hp to 90 hp. Our car stands out for its remarkable competition pedigree, having participated in the iconic Mille Miglia an impressive 20 times since 1989, making it the record holder for the most entered car in this prestigious event. Having recently completed the 2023 Mille Miglia without issue, it offers its next owner an affordable entry ticket to what is often described as "the most beautiful race in the world."
