Highlights
- Restored car in factory correct black
- Servicing and other work by Jaz in 2021
- Dry stored as part of high end collection since 2021
- Revised T6 with improved gearbox, visibility and heating
The Appeal
In typical Porsche fashion, the firm continuously improved the 356 in subtle and ingenious ways that inspire enthusiasts. The T6 356B arrived for the 1962 model year and is identified by the twin engine grilles, larger rear screen and external fuel filler.
This pretty factory-correct black 356B coupe spent its life in the warm environs of California until a few years ago, when it arrived in the UK. The history file indicates that the car was restored in the Noughties, including an engine rebuild. The seller added this car to his high-end collection in September 2021, shortly after specialist Jaz serviced it, along with brake and other work.
The eagle-eyed will note that this Reutter-built car is badged as a ‘90’ and has the correct silver-finished engine cooling pipework that denotes these cars. We can’t verify the engine specification, but it is an intriguing detail for the buyer.
With very few miles covered since the specialist attention, this is a smart and nicely specified example of the beautiful T6.
History & Paperwork
- First registered 1963
- Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
- VIN number 123205
- Based on history file appears to have returned to UK around 5-10 years ago
- Current keeper since September 2021
- V5C
- Handbooks
- 1 key
- Jaz invoice for £1,300 from March 2021 covering servicing and other work
- 1970s California registration documents
- Noughties invoices from California for engine rebuild and other work
Buyers will note that the car comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming the engine number and Karmann build. The V5C indicates the car has the same engine number. However, the ‘1’ chassis prefix indicates this car was built by Reutter. This seems supported by Reutter body fittings, as shown in the photos.
The Condition
- Older restoration in factory correct Black with matching interior
- Some minor paintwork points to note including door edge chips
- Badged as a ‘90’ with silver painted engine cooling ductwork
- Bright chrome with very tidy steel wheel covers as shown
- Fitted with quality Bridgestone tyres
- Black 2+2 leather interior in very good condition
- Smartly presented VDO dials and period Bendix stereo
- Black carpets in good condition
- Servicing and other work in 2021 by Jaz
- Engine appears to have been rebuild in Noughties based on history file
This car’s black paintwork appears to have been restored some years ago and is pleasingly factory correct. It is a colour that works well with the bright chromework, notably the smart steel wheels, and matches the very well-kept 2+2 interior. A few minor points are worth noting, but as befits this collector-quality car, they do not detract much from the overall impression.
The Mechanics
- 1.6L flat four air cooled Porsche engine
- 4spd manual gearbox
- Extensive engine work in California in 2014
- Service, brake work, new battery and heater system repairs by Jaz in 2021
This car’s Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and V5C appear to confirm it is a matching-numbers car. The history file indicates that the engine, ancillaries and carburettors were extensively overhauled during the Noughties while it was in the USA.
The car has covered very few miles since the 2021 service work, when it went into dry storage as part of the seller’s collection.
