The Appeal
Few cars deliver ‘ministerial’ and ‘majestic’ quite like Rover’s P5. It is one of David Bache’s masterpieces, delivering a stately air only bested by a Rolls-Royce or Bentley. The MkII offered improved suspension to deliver an even more cossetting experience for its lucky occupants.
This 1964 MkII has had just six keepers in its 61 years, the first of them a doctor and son who retained it for 30 years. The vendor acquired it in 2016 and has continued to improve it. The car received a restoration and respray nine years ago and is now finished in fetching metallic British Racing Green. The interior continues the green theme and is said to be original. It is usable, but with scope for the buyer to improve.
The history file shows regular investment. The vendor tells us that over £2,000 has been spent recently, highlights including attention to the brakes and clutch. The odometer was replaced at 26,000 miles, and we are told the true mileage is 60,993 miles.
Running, reliable and very usable, this P5 could be simply enjoyed or treated as a rolling improvement process. Whichever you choose, we’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
The vendor says:
“The car turns heads for its British racing green colour. The smell of the original leather is still strong - I wish I could bottle that smell!
“It is hardly used and I would like it to go to an owner who will enjoy it and bring it to the next level.”
