The Appeal
When car makers update existing models, they don’t always make things better. Not so with the Jaguar MK II, which evolved the earlier MK I’s aesthetics into a more elegant shape that exemplified Sir William Lyons’ desire to create cars with “grace, space and pace". With a brighter glasshouse thanks to slender front pillars and chrome framed windows, improved interior, sharper handling and, crucially, the option of 3.8L straight-six power from the XK150 and E-Type, the MK II was a popular model throughout the 1960’s and remains a sought after classic today.
Now fitted with the torquey 3.8L straight six XK engine and classic moss gearbox, this car has the specification and condition to make it stand out in the market.
This example is also resplendent in the E-Type’s eye catching Opalescent Silver Blue metallic paint colour - an option on the Mk2 in period - being one of the prettiest examples we’ve seen. It also presents at a very high level following an extensive restoration by MK II guru David Sedge. The work included bodywork and repainting, interior re-trimming in pale blue, new wood veneers, and a complete engine rebuild.
The exhaustive restoration was completed in 2009 and it has been used sparingly since, having covered less than 7,000 miles. It is a mark of the vendor’s care for the vehicle that, alongside using high end suppliers for the restoration, he has carefully stored it in a Carcoon when not in use.
The vendor says:
“The car is excellent to drive. Having the engine and gearbox from an E-type is fantastic fun, as it feels like driving a sixties Jaguar sports car - except with 4 doors and a luxurious, spacious interior! The straight-six engine is powerful and sounds wonderful. The car never fails to turn heads due to its eye catching colour and the fact that it is in great condition.”
Please note that the private number plate displayed on this vehicle will not be included in the sale.
