The Appeal
Is it a restomod, or a clever, sympathetic evolution of Issigonis’ much-loved ‘poached egg’? Either way, this tidy 1968 Pick Up features mechanical and comfort upgrades that put it squarely between show star and practical classic workhorse.
The MAU5 prefix confirms it as a genuine factory commercial pickup. The seller bought it in 2024 and began a truly comprehensive programme of structural and mechanical renovation and upgrades soon after. Underneath, £4,000 worth of welding has been completed, backed by an invoice, and the underside has been undersealed. The cab has been repainted and insulated, new floor panels fitted, and the vehicle has received a full respray in smart grey.
The specification has been enhanced with a 1,275cc engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electronic ignition, and front disc brakes, with further work to cooling, ignition and brake systems detailed below. It has been serviced twice since purchase.
A great example of these very usable commercials that could be put to work for a classic or vintage business or simply enjoyed for shows.
The vendor says
“My lovely pickup is a joy to drive. My mechanic friend and I have brought her up to a very good condition, and she gets lots of attention even from youngsters who do not know what she is. She is a very reluctant sale. She has also had a full respray in the last month.”
