The Appeal

The Triumph TR250 was a transitional car for the Coventry marque. Built to meet the increasingly tough emissions guidelines in the USA, this little roadster lost a little of the grunt of its English counterparts, but none of the character. They’re a handsome, efficient iteration of the classic Anglocentric sports car.

This particular TR250 has undergone a comprehensive restoration after being imported from Japan as a project car. With over €5,500 invested in parts within a year, plus an additional €2,200 in spares, the current owner has addressed numerous mechanical and cosmetic aspects to keep it at its absolute best.

This handsome car boasts a professional paint job, new Alpaca soft top, rebuilt suspension, and numerous mechanical improvements - including a replacement engine from a TR6.

Purchased on May 24, 2024 as an imported vehicle
Originally purchased from a Japanese auction site as a restoration project
Registered in France
British Motor Heritage certificate present

The Condition

Original chassis appears in good condition with no obvious corrosion
Body and floor pans appear sound
New paint job (€3,000 spent on paint and soft top installation)
- We are told that there are no supporting invoices for this work
Some small imperfections in the paint that could be corrected with polishing
Missing two TR250 badges on the sides
Chrome wire wheels in good condition
New tires
New Alpaca soft top installed by a professional (not vinyl)
Original upholstery in good condition with slight wear on driver's seat
New carpets
Door panels in good condition
Centre console redone in leather by an upholsterer
Dashboard has some small imperfections (cracked varnish in places)

The Mechanics

2.5-liter six-cylinder petrol
Manual transmission with four gears
Original engine was removed due to severe knocking and is stored awaiting restoration
Replacement TR6 carburetor-fed engine installed
Front suspension completely rebuilt (shock absorbers, springs, bushings, ball joints)
Front brakes rebuilt (lines, pads)
Rear brakes checked, handbrake cable replaced
New cooling system: new aluminum radiator, hoses, thermostat, heater valve
Stromberg 175 CD carburetors ultrasonically cleaned with underneath mixture adjustment kit
Differential bushings replaced, new rear transmission gaiters
TR6 differential installed with longer ratio than original (lower engine speed, smoother, less fuel consumption)
Drive shaft disassembled and checked (possibly replaced by previous owner)
Rear shock absorbers checked and refilled with new oil
New rear damper links
Complete new exhaust system
Electronic ignition
The vendor reports that the car is driving well
