The Appeal

The E-Type is a pop-culture legend. It's the only word for the car often hailed as the most beautiful machine ever built by a British carmaker. Peppered throughout decades of films, TV series, model shoots and more, it's a symbol of the oh-so-optimistic period of the 1960s, perfectly sculpted to look fast when standing still and look stylish at all angles.

This particular example boasts a rich and well-documented American history, having been exported to Texas in 1969, where it was purchased by the President of the State National Bank in El Paso. It remained in that ownership until 1994, reportedly covering only around 1,000 miles in 13 years, before passing to a second owner still in Texas. In 2007, it was acquired by an ex-president of the USA Jaguar Affiliates and driven to Michigan, where it was stripped to bare metal and comprehensively rebuilt over two years, with the entire process recorded on CD.

Imported to the UK and registered on UK plates in 2017, it has covered approximately 3,000 miles since. Now equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox and air conditioning, it's a car better-equipped than it would have been from factory, and is in utterly fabulous condition. By all accounts, it's now ready and waiting to be driven away.

The Detail

The rebuild in 2007 included the following:
- 5 speed gearbox, new clutch and release bearing
- Engine inspection, replaced oil pump and crankshaft damper
- Rebuilt triple SU carburettors from a series1 car
- Electronic ignition (which has since been replaced)
- Rebuilt rear suspension with new bearings and seals
- Rebuilt rear diff unit with new clutch pack, seals and upgraded XJS style tapered bearings
- New shocks all round
- Complete brake rebuild including new discs, pads,master cylinder, booster, SS braided brake pipes and reconditioned calipers
- Front suspension rebuilt with polybushes and adjustable torsion bar reaction plate
- Bell stainless steel exhaust system, ceramic coated exhaust manifold
- High intensity headlights
- New heater element and fan
- Complete replacement air conditioning system
- New tinted windshield
- Wire wheels
- The seats were retrimmed and new door cards and carpet fitted
More recently the car has been fitted with a period Baupunt radio with Bluetooth
The rebuild is also comprehensively recorded on CD and comes with the original handbook, heritage certificate and relevant paperwork
Since its rebuild, the car has completed 28000 miles, 3000 miles of which are in the UK since it was imported in 2017

All grease points serviced in March 2026
The vendor states the engine starts and runs well, pulling strongly in all gears

The vendor tells us:
- The car starts easily on full choke and pulls well in all gears with no sign of burning oil
- All gauges were rebuilt and work 'perfectly'
- Oil pressure is good sitting at just under 50psi when hot
- The twin cooling fans both work and keep the temperature at mid-range
- The car remains in pretty much the same condition as when rebuilt, and as far as they know, has always been stored inside
