The Appeal
The demise of the ‘Big Healey’ created a great opportunity for enthusiast MGB buyers. The car finally got the extra power it deserved in the form of a variant of the Healey’s 3L straight six.
While the roadster filled the gap left by the 3000, the MGC GT became a proper mini GT with long-legged, torquey appeal. Just 4,457 were built, and in recent years, the few survivors have been seriously reappraised by collectors. They value the car’s rarity, performance and sheer usability for classic rallies and events.
This lovely Mineral Blue ‘69 CGT dials up the appeal with an older restoration and its lowered suspension on purposeful Minilites. The vendor tells us that it was owned for many years by veteran MG racer Vic Young, which may explain the uprated suspension, larger SU carburettors and improved brakes. There is also a fruity stainless steel exhaust to give that C-series engine full reign.
The car is in good, usable condition and comes with the useful advantage of a recent voluntary MOT in 2023. That showed no advisories and the car has only covered 40 miles since the test.
