The Appeal
The final Series 3 E-Type is the one to have if driving and enjoying your Browns Lane coupe is top of your agenda. Bigger doors and a taller roof make them more practical while that super-smooth V12 turns any drive into something rather special.
This car leans into that theme with a series of upgrades that make it ideal for the many high-end classic car tours and events run across the UK and Europe. It is a USA car that returned to the UK in 2019. The current keeper bought it soon after and commissioned an extensive restoration that delivers the red car you see in the photos. The bodywork and paintwork present well, with smart wide profile chrome wheels filling the arches, while inside is a black leather cabin in great order.
The upgrades include a bespoke quad exit exhaust stem, six Webers under the hood and a 'Vintage Air' air conditioning system. The vendor tells us that the car has a few issues that need resolving, which we've described below. One sorted, you get a very tidy E-Type where someone else has put in all the hard work for you. image.png4 MB
History and Paperwork
First registered in 1971 in USA
Originally left-hand drive, converted to right-hand drive
Bodywork restored and is described by the vendor as "brilliant"
Red paintwork in good order with bright finish and even panel fit
Smart chromework as shown
Chrome wire wheels in good condition with wider profile than factory standard
Black leather interior appears to be in good general condition
Vendor states that interior needs tidying
Features factory three spoke leather wheel and Vintage Air air conditioning
Interior parts supplied for completion, to the vendor's knowledge
An upgraded steering wheel is included
Much of the time and money involved in any E-Type restoration is expended on the bodywork. This car has already had all that done, apparently to a good standard, with a quality paint finish as shown in the photos.
We are told that there is still some work to do inside, but the interior generally presents well as shown. image.png3.21 MB
The Mechanics
5,343cc V12 engine
Six Weber downdraft carburetors fitted
We are told that the carburetors are not tuned but with plugs connected
Major coolant leak reported by the vendor
Major oil leak reported by the vendor
Wiring is reported to be incorrect throughout the car
The car will require mechanical and electrical recommissioning
Bespoke exhaust system with quad exit
This car has moved away from standard factory specification with a series of upgrades clearly designed to maximize its potential as a potent GT. The work is detailed above and will require some further completion. image.png4.54 MB
