The Appeal
The Series 3 firmly leaned the E-Type into the great GT that it had always wanted to be. Adding the smooth 5.3L V12 plus an auto box created one of the best long-distance touring cars of the 1970s. That it looked great too, with the extra practicality of its 2+2 chassis, certainly helped.
Just 2,051 Series 3 RHD coupes left the works. This one was built in 1971 and has had just three keepers since it was road registered in December of that year. It is a very stylish example, finished in rare white with neat details like those chrome steels, the fluted exhaust typical of these early cars and a big folding Webasto sunroof.
The car was reportedly restored 10 years ago and presents well in photos. The black leather interior is well preserved and features a correct leather-rimmed wheel and period radio cassette. The overall condition is very good - the car looks solid, very presentable and ready to use.
The vendor acquired the car in 2009, reporting that the previous keeper had it for 27 years. It has been sparingly used and regularly maintained, including a recent new exhaust. With history dating back to the car’s earliest days, this is a good example of these very usable and practical final models.
The vendor says:
“Excellent condition throughout - not concours but very usable.”
