The Appeal
By the close of the '60s, Volvo were celebrated as one of the best car builders on the planet. Everything they were manufacturing was solid, stylish and dependable - and their product range was rapidly carving out a name for itself in the sporting world. As a result, the public had big expectations.
The P1800E fulfilled those expectations with impressive charisma. The styling, penned by Pelle Petterson under the tutelage of Italian auto stylist Pietro Frua, was intended to carry a heavy Continental bent, and Volvo themselves tried to maintain it as a purely Italian design for much of their history.
The car was only further boosted by its appearance in The Saint. The car clearly had quite an influence on the legendary Sir Roger Moore - he ended up getting one of his own during production and became a staunch loyalist to the Swedish tourer. This rings true for almost anyone who's gotten behind the wheel - the P1800 can seduce even the most discerning enthusiast.
