The Appeal
Crisply styled by Michelotti, equipped with one of motoring’s most sonorous engines and with space for four plus a big boot, for a classic car the Stag package is hard to beat. And, as the enthusiastic owners' club will quickly assert, the issues suffered by early cars were quickly rectified in later ones and pose few problems for contemporary buyers.
This lovely white 1976 car is one of the later Mk2s with updated aesthetics including those pretty GKN Kent alloys. We’re told that it was partially restored in 2013, including new panels and a bare metal respray, and it continues to present very well today. It retains the original burbling 3L V8 which is matched to a relaxing auto box, which is also factory correct.
The vendor acquired the car in December 2021 and has continued to improve it. Work in 2019 included fitting new shocks and springs and polybushing the suspension. There is also a new battery and the car is fitted with electronic ignition and an electric fan to improve reliability. Other upgrades include a dashboard retrimmed in smart American Walnut and the front seats have been recovered. Front and rear seats are fitted with belts, making this car very family-friendly.
The result of this work was a clean voluntary MOT pass in May 2024, since when the car has covered few miles. We’re told that the current keeper has kept it garaged when not in use. This is a really nice and clearly cherished example of the much-admired Stag.
The vendor says:
“Have loved having and driving car over past 3 years and carrying out interior restoration and wheel refurbishment work but not using as much as I would like so time to move her on for someone else to enjoy.”
