The Appeal
In 1983, Jaguar sanctioned Autotune’s clever recreation of its beautiful post-war XK cars. Looking at this tidy later car it’s easy to see why. The design closely follows the spirit of the originals, such that to the untrained eye it’s hard to spot the difference. Key to their appeal is the wider and more comfortable cabins, the later, more reliable XJ running gear and, of course, the rain-resistant fibreglass body.
The Aristocat is still listed on Autotune’s website, so you could still build one. This Old English White saves you the hassle. It was bought in 1989 and completed in 1991, since when it has had just three keepers. The second one hung onto it for 25 years, dry storing it for the last 10 of those before the vendor acquired it in 2025. He set about a recommissioning process that included a full rewire and overhauling the brakes with new callipers, discs and pads.
The joy of this car is proven in the photos where you’ll see classic rally plates and a photo from the 2008 London to Brighton run. With its 4.2L XK motor and long-legged 5spd Jaguar manual gearbox, it is ideal for touring events. Those XJ-sourced seats look comfortable too. There are a few cosmetic points to note in photos and below, but with the recent work it is ready to jump in and enjoy.
