This clever conversion of a Mercedes W460 G-Wagen proves how versatile it is. Instead of restoring it as a stylish urban warrior, it has been developed into an overland camper. The work reportedly cost €30,000 and included fitting a new turbocharged diesel engine in place of the original unit (which is included in the sale).

The current owner's grandfather kept this 1984 300GD LWB for many years, storing it indoors in a farm garage and using it mainly at weekends for short trips. After his passing, the family set about fulfilling his dream of converting the vehicle into a compact overland camper for travelling across Europe. The project, carried out over three years with help from Penta Garage in Italy and a family member who is a mechanical engineer, is supported by documented work spanning mechanical overhaul, bodywork, camper conversion, and accessories. The result is a vehicle that blends the character of an analogue classic with the practicality of a self-contained tourer. The rear camper conversion includes a fridge, diesel heater, water system, solar setup and auxiliary battery, while the front cabin retains its classic W460 charm with warm tan and beige tones, a wood-rim steering wheel and simple analogue gauges. Hello, the car is currently registered in Italy and has not yet been imported into the UK. Any UK import duties, VAT, registration costs or related fees are the buyer’s responsibility, however the seller will assist with the Italian export deregistration paperwork.
