The Appeal
With faster and increasingly capable hot hatch competitors nipping at its heels and Group A domination in its sights, Ford responded with the tyre-scrabbling turbocharged RS. It only needed to build 5,000 but demand was such that 8,604 found customers between in 12 month production run from December 1984.
Many buyers, including previous keepers of this August 1985 car, felt that the 132bhp factory specification didn’t quite live up to the car’s looks and RS nameplate. In the late 1990s it received an extensive list of work by specialist, including a Stage 2 head conversion and Stage 1 transaxle rebuild. There is a dyno printout from 2007 showing 190bhp.
The cas was bought by the current keeper’s family 10 years ago and has been off the road during that time. The white paintwork and bodywork present in fair condition, with some age typical of a 41 year old car, with the underside also meriting attention. Inside there is a well kept full black Recaro leather cabin, in place of the original two-tone Monza crushed velour and Cashmere fabric seats. The car does start and run but will need recommissioning and should be trailered away.
For the right visionary buyer, here is a chance to get in on the Mk1 RS Turbo action, save a car and add value as you improve it.
