The Appeal

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Lancia Delta was merely a good-looking and practical hatchback for the first years of its life. However, with the introduction of turbocharged versions and then its use in world-level rallying, the Delta morphed into something else entirely. The introduction of the HF Integrale in 1987 proved a watershed moment: the birth of a legend – combining a punchy turbocharged engine and four-wheel drive with pumped-up bodywork that featured flared wheel arches, louvered hood, wider front bumper and twin headlights. Here was a rally car for the road.

This example's VIN denotes a 1990 model year car, one of the last of the original eight-valve HF Integrale models to be produced, complete with catalyzed exhaust. Finished in gloss red, with black leather interior, it was imported into the UK in 2000. The seller purchased it in 2015, and states that the car comes with good history from when it was imported into the UK.

The vehicle’s exterior is original, including the iconic eight-hole black and silver alloy wheels. The seller notes that there is a small patch of minor bubbling in the paint near the windshield, and while the ‘Integrale’ badge from the trunk lid is absent, a new old stock item will be included in the sale.

The black leather interior with sports seats is complete though would benefit from detailing and shows patina throughout. The seller states that only the sunroof does not work. The car has been cared for by Auto Integrale (a leading UK Integrale specialist in Reading) continuously over the past 10+ years. Over this time it has had standard maintenance plus a number of preventative and improvement works, including: a new cylinder head in 2020, and much work to ensure all warning lights and the multi-dial dashboard have been restored to working order. Over this period, a number of minor bodywork items have been repaired as needed, including the rear fenders. Consequently the car is in strong mechanical order, with no material rust.

The seller says, “This is a fantastic modern classic, that’s fast and fun to drive. I think every gearhead should have an Integrale at some point”. This is a highly usable and enjoyable icon that will provide driving pleasure, and would benefit from a little cosmetic attention to restore it to full glory.
