The Appeal
The Jaguar XJ-S Convertible is one of the great British grand tourers, but to find one with the 4.0-litre straight-six and a five-speed manual gearbox is a genuinely rare thing. Very few manual XJ-S convertibles were ever produced, and the combination transforms the car from a relaxed cruiser into something altogether more engaging.
This dark green example has been in the hands of its current owner for over 23 years, having been purchased from a Jaguar specialist in Devon back in 2002. During that time, it has covered fewer than 18,000 miles, with the seller reporting that it has always been garaged and covered, and has never seen winter use. The seller notes that servicing has been carried out regularly, latterly by a retired Jaguar engineer, with the most recent service said to have been completed in 2025. The vendor reports that the car starts on the button and is amazingly comfortable and easy to drive.
The original paintwork has never been resprayed and presents well for a car of its age, complemented by a tan leather interior with walnut dashboard and door trims. The underside has been treated with protective oil on several occasions and is reported to be in very good condition. It’s a cherished example, and its long-term owner believes it should be enjoyed and used more often than it has been.
