The Appeal
Fuelled by generous Fiat cash and developed with input from Ferrari, Maserati’s new 3200GT was a firm and focused reset. The new car revisited the firm’s traditional home turf with a beautiful and supremely capable hand-built grand tourer.
These early cars maintained a link to that illustrious past by featuring an evolution of the long-lived AM585 engine, now in 3.2L capacity and equipped with twin turbos to deliver 370 bhp. They are easily differentiated from similar later models by the distinctive ‘Boomerang’ rear LED lights that were both a world first and make these cars so memorable.
The trick when buying one of these rare, evocative Italian supercars is to find one in the right specification with good history. This very well presented 2000 GT ‘Automatica’ firmly ticks both those boxes. It is finished in the tasteful combination of dark blue metallic with well-kept cream leather and comes with impeccable maintenance history.
The vendor reports 18 services from new, most recently in 2024. The car has covered few miles since then. Importantly, the maintenance includes regular cam belt changes. There is also attention to other areas such as the a/c, which indicates that the owners haven’t cut corners. This impression is supported by the current MOT, which runs to January 2027 with no advisories.
With its beautiful Giugiaro lines, hand-crafted interior and sonorous V8, any 3200GT is a treat. This car adds a reassuring history and low mileage to that beguiling mix.
