The Appeal

While its peers veered towards youthful exuberance, the performance version of the third generation of VW’s quality Polo was also all about fun, but with a much more grown-up feel. This was a car that could be rewarding in the twisties, but equally at home over long distances.

Despite those qualities and its adjacency to the Golf GTI, the car that kick-started the hot hatch craze, just 2,258 3rd GTIs found UK buyers over the car’s short two-year life. Today that rarity, its capability and perhaps even those unusual ‘1 design’ seats make these cars sought after. And few, we suspect, have the provenance of this one.

It is the sort of Polo you want to find - a one-keeper, low-mileage car that remains factory standard in good condition. That it has always been serviced within the VW main dealer network, clocking up a remarkable 23 stamps, is a strong added bonus. Finished in Satin Silver, it is not without a few cosmetic points to note in the photos, but its maintenance, low mileage and provenance make it a very appealing way to discover these engaging, analogue hot hatches.
