The Appeal
The 9-5 was Saab’s tilt at the mainstream executive sector and the Aero its blistering, tyre-scrabbling riposte to the quick Audis, Mercedes and BMWs. Extracting 250bhp from the B235R Saab-designed engine, made the 9-5 as quick as it was comfortable and characterful.
Early, pre-facelift cars like this one with their distinctive ‘Shark Tooth’ bumpers are becoming very hard to find. Examples like this especially so, because it has covered just 66,000 miles - barely run in for a Saab - in the hands of five keepers and is fully factory standard. Finished in silver with a supremely comfortable two-tone leather cabin, it wears its 20 years very lightly.
The vendor bought the car a couple of years ago from a friend, a Saab collector, and tells us that he has spent £1,500 on it since. The work has been done by a Saab specialist and includes a recent service. He uses it daily and tells us that it runs and drives really well. The underside was undersealed in 2022 to protect the structure. The MOT runs to September 2026.
This 9-5 is a timely reminder why a Saab rejuvenation would be a wonderful thing. It’s a great example of these now-rare super saloons.
The vendor says:
“I have driven the car daily for the last couple of years. It's never let me down. I love the power of the engine , automatic gearbox is smooth and so easy to drive.”
