The Appeal
After the mis-steps of the Mk3 and then the Mk4, Volkswagen threw everything at getting the Mk5 GTI right. Clever multilink rear suspension, new 197bhp EA113 TFSI engine and the first GTI to get VW’s clever and lightning quick DSG dual-clutch gearbox all catapulted the Mk5 back to the front of the hot hatch fray.
It also made the Mk5 expensive to make, which is why it was only available for six years. That mix of brevity and brilliance makes the Mk5 DSG highly sought after by enthusiasts, and we suspect this rather special example will be in demand. It is a 2026 Japanese import and has covered just 9,553 miles from new. A useful JEVIC certificate and service history support that. The car’s condition across the Shadow Blue paintwork and Anthracite leather also reinforces the mileage - the interior in particular looks barely used.
Despite the limited use, as is typical of a Japanese-market car, the service history shows regular attention, mostly by VW main dealers. The Chequered Flag serviced the car in May 2026. This work included engine oil and filter, air filter, battery and four new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. The current MOT runs to May 2027 with no advisories
The Mk5 GTI is one of the best ‘real world’ driver’s cars of the last 20 years. Here is a chance to sample one that has less mileage than a typically one-year-old example.
