Our Elan to FIA 26R specifications has undergone extensive work in both its design and preparation. Built to the FIA 26R specs, our Elan has been comprehensively developed and prepared.
This is a Lotus Elan GTS Series 1 in full specifications (the “FIA” note is what appears on the homologation paperwork) and it’s referred to as “26R specification” in Lotus jargon.
In summary, it’s fully registered for road use and compliant with the regulations, and it has:
- A 26R-spec chassis and suspension — very similar to a standard chassis, but with strengthening gussets and a suspension that’s fully jointed.
- An ultra-light Series 1 26R body, roof and closure panels. The 26R is equipped with widened/ rolled front fenders.
- The assembly supplied by Tony Thompson.
- A 3/ 4-size wooden dashboard, as used on the Series 1 26R.
- A removable steering wheel.
- AP brake calipers to 26R specifications fitted with modern race pads.
- 6J13 magnesium wheels with quick-release knock-off spinners, plus a magnesium rear transmission housing.
- A close-ratio gearbox (main casing in cast iron, since the FIA has banned magnesium versions).
- Safety Devices roll cage.
- Tillet race seat with a light harness.
- Lightweight battery.
- Engine rebuilt by Craig Beck, developing around 175 BHP with two Weber 45 DCOE carburettors.
- Heated windscreen; side and rear windows in plastic.
- Alloy radiator and expansion tank with an electric fan.
- Electrically operated fire extinguisher.
- Long-distance fuel tank filled with foam.
- Road-homologated lighting: headlights, indicators, etc.
Powered by an engine that’s just been fully rebuilt and freshly run-in with a new cylinder head, this car promises its future owner an extremely competitive, beautifully maintained vehicle. It’s supplied with a current, valid FIA HTP certificate, a spare gearbox and rear differential, and 8 mounted wheels.
Among its many race outings, our Elan took part in numerous events with its previous owner in England, plus at Dijon and Spa. With its new owner, it was entered for the 10, 000 Tours at Castellet and also at Dijon for the Âge d’Or.
Extremely eligible with Peter Auto, Le Mans Classic, Tour Auto, and the Sixties event, as well as on the Motor Racing Legend grids — it’s a car made to shine at the front.
