The Appeal
It all started here. Ferdinand Porsche’s experiences with his supercharged Beetle led directly to this car, the 356. It was an unfiltered embodiment of a simple idea: that a light, nimble car with a small engine could be as quick, if not quicker, and as entertaining, if not more entertaining, that a big, lumbering V8.
The car evolved through many versions and arguably this car is one of the most desirable of all of then. It is a final ‘C’ model 1964 car with factory SC specification. That means more power from the air cooled 1.6L engine and all-round disc brakes. These are improvements that make these cars more usable in modern driving. And, of course, more entertaining.
This car was sourced and owned by the founder of the Spanish Porsche 356 Club some years ago. We are told he bought the best he could find, and looking at the photos we have to agree. Classically finished in silver over black leather following an older restoration, it is a gorgeous car that carries the sort of light patina that adds soul and character. This is a car to be used and enjoyed.
The vendor reports that the mechanicals were recently thoroughly overhauled. He tells us that they have been checked and this detail verified by a Porsche specialist.
356s are the purist iteration of Porsche’s vision and the SC one of the best experience it. If you’re in the market for one then this car, with its provenance and recent investment, looks like a serious contender.
The vendor says:
“It's a great car. It drives smoothly and just needs to be used more assiduously to extract its full potential. It is not a concours unit, it is a unit for a true petrolhead, who appreciates the use and enjoyment of automobiles. Over the years, we have sold several family collector cars and they have all turned out to be very worthy and honest vehicles.”

The 356 coupe established the format and profile that has endured for Porsche’s rear-engined cars into the modern era. Looking at this pretty silver metallic 1964 SC is a reminder of just how well-proportioned and advanced it was. The paintwork is accented by neat dashes of chrome but it is a simple and generally unadorned shape.
This factory-standard car retains the purity of that design with its chromed steel wheels, correct bumpers with exhaust exits and even factory radio and steering wheel. It is in great condition, but not concours because really this is a car designed to be used and driven. It is at a level of condition where it would work as a show car, but the buyer would not be afraid to use it.
The Mechanics
- 1.6-litre flat-four engine
- 4spd manual transmission
- 95bhp SC specification car
- Equipped with disc brakes all around
- Recent mechanical overhaul as verified by a Porsche specialist in Barcelona
- Recent work includes fixing leaks, replacing fuel lines, transmission and suspensions
- Sparing recent use and would benefit from more regular use
Aside from the Carrera, the SC was the most powerful and well-specified of the many 356 models. These cars got a more powerful 95bhp version of the 1.6L air cooled motor plus the necessary stopping power in the form of disc brakes all round. We are told that this car retains those factory modifications.
The car has been in the care of a founder of hte Porsche 356 Club in Spain for many years so it seems reasonable to assume it has been correctly looked after. The vendor reports that it received a recent mechanical overhaul including repairing leaks, replacing fuel lines and attending to the gearbox and suspension. The work has been checked and verified by a Porsche specialist in Barcelona.
