The Appeal
The VW Type 2 is not exactly known for its performance, but this Bay Window bucks the trend. What we have here is a ground-up custom build that pairs the classic Bay Window silhouette with the mechanical heart of a Porsche 911 SC: a one-off creation completed in 2012 after five and a half years of work.
The chassis was strengthened to accommodate the larger powertrain, the suspension lowered on adjustable dampers, and Rossini competition disc brakes fitted with servo assistance. The exterior features a custom candy flip respray that shifts between deep orange, cherry red, and golden yellow depending on the light, applied over de-seamed bodywork and complemented by extensive hand-crafted stainless steel work. Inside the cab, early slim-type Porsche 911 seats re-trimmed in leather sit alongside a dashboard incorporating Porsche 911 SC instruments, while the Devon camper interior is retained.
Affectionately known as 'Mubbsi', this is a genuinely unique vehicle that the vendor states must be seen in person to be truly appreciated.
