The Appeal
The Allard Palm Beach was Sydney Allard's final sports car design, a pretty, alloy-bodied roadster introduced in 1952, built on a K3-type tubular chassis with independently suspended swing axles at the front and a coil-sprung live axle at the rear. With only around 85 examples produced across all variants before production ended in 1958, and the majority exported to the United States, the Palm Beach has always been a genuinely rare machine. Today, it is believed that only 12 survive. Vanishingly - and excitingly - scarce.
This Mark I Palm Beach, chassis 21Z-5125, was originally supplied new to New Zealand with a Ford Zephyr Six engine and comes with a documented list of its New Zealand owners. After a period of deterioration in storage, the car was restored in New Zealand before being brought back to the UK in 2011. An Allard club member then carried out further restoration work, and the current owner has since undertaken additional improvements.
The car now runs a newly built Ford Zephyr 6 engine to modified fast road specification, mated to a Ford Type 9 five-speed manual gearbox in place of the original three-speed unit. Finished in Mercedes silver over new red leather upholstery, it certainly cuts a handsome figure. image.png1.17 MB
