The Appeal
The original ‘Frogeye’ Sprite has become one of the most recognisable small British sports cars of the post-war era. Introduced in 1958, its compact proportions, simple mechanicals and distinctive upright headlamps gave it a character quite unlike anything else on the road, while its light weight and modest 948cc A-Series engine made it entertaining without requiring extravagant performance.
This 1959 example is finished in red over a matching red interior and was restored under previous ownership. The seller describes both the exterior and cabin as presenting very well, with only minor marks noted around the bodywork.
Recently serviced and benefiting from further mechanical attention, it is said to drive very well and appears ready to be enjoyed as intended. With its restoration already completed and its unmistakable early-Sprite character intact, it makes a particularly appealing example of the much-loved ‘Frogeye’.
