The Appeal
The AJS 37A-T trials bike is a very rare machine indeed, with fewer than 100 of these models produced between 1969 and 1970. Built around a torquey single-cylinder two-stroke engine and a lightweight Reynolds-tubed frame, the 37A-T was extremely well made and, with certain modifications, was able to achieve some success on the trials scene.
This 1969 example was bought by the seller in 2024, when its engine and gearbox had already been rebuilt to a “very high standard” by Paul Powell of Cotton Motorcycles. Since then, the seller has spent well over £3,000 completing its recommissioning, including respraying the original petrol tank, rebuilding the forks and fitting a custom-built chrome exhaust, silencer and aluminium airbox.
The repainted green frame and silver petrol tank are bright and free of imperfections, and the original aluminium mudguards have been polished. The bike is to standard specification, the only exception being the reed block set-up on the carburettor, which was fitted in 2024 alongside new handlebars and clutch and brake levers.
The seller states, “The bike starts and runs beautifully and, being very light, is very smooth and easy to ride and control”. This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding example of a truly rare British trials bike.
