The Appeal
The AJS 37A-T trials bike is a very rare machine indeed, as fewer than 100 of these models were produced between 1969 and 1970. Based around a torquey single-cylinder two-stroke engine and lightweight Reynolds-tubed frame, the 37A-T was extremely well-made and was, with certain modifications, able to find some success on the trials scene.
This 1969 example was purchased by the seller in 2024, when its engine and gearbox had already been rebuilt to a “very high standard” by Paul Powell of Cotton Motorcycles. Since then, the seller has spent well over £3,000 to complete its recommissioning, including repainting the original fuel tank, rebuilding the forks and fitting custom-built chrome exhaust, muffler and aluminum airbox.
The repainted green frame and silver fuel tank of the bike are bright and free of imperfections, and the original aluminum fenders have been polished. The bike is to standard specification, the only exception being the reed block setup on the carburetor, which was fitted in 2024 alongside new handlebars and clutch and brake levers.
The seller states, “The bike starts and runs beautifully and, being very light, is very smooth and easy to ride and control”. This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding example of a truly rare British trials bike.
