The Appeal

In the late 60s, the Japanese manufacturers were in a race to get a raft of new superbikes to market. This new breed was designed to smash the hegemony of the UK and American sports bikes, the Japanese spotting an opportunity to match their performance with far better reliability.

The CB750 won the race, but as a result the original K0 was somewhat rushed. The subsequent K1 rectified the early problems, notably by improving the throttle system, redesigning the ergonomics and body design. Crucially for modern enthusiasts it retained the original’s free-flowing ‘4-into-4’ HM300 exhaust and 67bhp output.

This lovely Candy Gold 1972 bike is said to retain its standard engine and running gear throughout. Imported from America, it was registered on UK plates in 2025, with a V5 in the vendor's name. The bodywork has been professionally repainted in the original Candy Gold finish, and new exhausts, along with other replacement parts, have been sourced from a specialist Honda dealer in Suffolk. The vendor states the recorded 31,903 km is believed to be correct. Offered as part of a collection, this is an increasingly scarce opportunity to acquire one of these historically significant early CB750s.

The vendor says:

“The engine and bike are unmodified and standard, and considering the age in very good original condition. The mileage is believed to be correct and in very original condition, although it has been repainted using the original candy gold to a high standard.

“Ideal collector's bike as it was only manufactured for 3 months and is exactly the same as the K0 with the sand-cast engine model 300, more preppy than the later CBs, and can easily keep up with modern traffic.”
