The Appeal
Porsche wanted to race its transaxle front-engined cars at Le Mans, introducing the 924 Carrera GT at the 1979 Frankfurt Motor Show as a Group 4 homologation special.
This Guards Red example is a cracking survivor. Built in 1981 as one of the Group 4 homologation specials, it left the Official Porsche Centre Henley in Henley-on-Thames on 14 April of that year, car 399 of just 75 right-hand-drive cars for the UK market from a worldwide run of only 406.
Lift the NACA-ducted bonnet, and you’ll find the 1,984 cc turbocharged four-cylinder, good for 210 bhp, which is paired with a delightfully old-school five-speed dog-leg gearbox. The muscular looks are no accident: lightweight polyurethane wings flare out over 16-inch forged Fuchs alloys, while a front intercooler scoop feeds the engine and big brakes borrowed from the 911 Turbo haul it back down again.
Inside, the black cabin is brightened by red pinstripe fabric, and this car even boasts the rare luxury of factory air conditioning, a surprisingly civilised touch for such a focused machine.
Dry stored since 2014, it has recently benefited from a thorough programme of mechanical recommissioning. The vendor describes the car as being in very good condition overall, with paintwork presenting well following a respray in 2013 and the front end now protected with paint protection film. A rich history file accompanies the sale.
Right-hand drive 924 Carrera GTs seldom come to market, and this example, freshly recommissioned and well-documented, has everything going for it.image.png1.55 MB

Some gentle patina of age/use which can be seen in the photographs

Smart period interior
Fuchs alloy wheels
As the photographs attest, this Porsche presents very well for its age and has evidently been enjoyed as its makers intended. There is a gentle patina commensurate with use, while the red paintwork retains a glossy lustre. The front end has been protected with PPF, while the underside exhibits a protective coat of underseal.
Two-tone Fuchs alloys nestle beneath those muscular arches and present very well, along with the Falken tyres. The car's interior appears very original and well-kept. An updated DIN stereo has been fitted.
2.0-litre turbocharged and intercooled inline-four engine
Five-speed manual transmission
The vendor reports the car is in good mechanical order
Cam belt and tensioner replaced in September 2024 along with oil and filter
All brake callipers rebuilt in May 2025 with new braided lines, brake fluid replaced, and a replacement crank speed sensor fitted
Plugs, leads, rotor arm, and distributor cap renewed in October 2026, with a refurbished warm-up regulator installed
210 bhp was enormous performance for a four-cylinder engine at the time, especially one within 2.0 litres. This 924 still feels quick today, and the vendor reports this example to be in very good health following a comprehensive recommissioning program, noted above. All appears very original and well-kept under the bonnet, exactly as one would wish to find one of these rare cars. image.png1.42 MB BEFORE YOU BUY
