The Appeal

The Land Rover Defender XD90 Wolf was developed in the early 1990s under the eXtra Duty programme to meet the British Armed Forces' exacting requirements. Featuring a strengthened chassis with heavier side rails and cross-members, an uprated rear axle with four-pinion differential, and a host of military-specific enhancements, the Wolf is amongst the most robust machines in the Defender lineage.

This particular example is one of the first batch delivered to JSCS Ashchurch in July 1998 and went on to serve with distinguished regiments including the Coldstream Guards, the Grenadier Guards, and the Honourable Artillery Company, as well as seeing a deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina. Its service record has been confirmed by the Ministry of Defence via the archived Merlin database, providing a documented chain of custody from new.

Cast for disposal in 2012 at 94,779 km, it was purchased directly from Witham Specialist Vehicles and selected for its straight panels and absence of rust or leaks. The first civilian owner undertook a thorough programme of work under the guidance of Dunsfold Land Rover, with the bodywork professionally repainted and all removed components reassembled using new genuine seals, fixings, and hardware. A number of mechanical upgrades were also carried out, and the vehicle has since been dry-stored in a Carcoon when not in use and used primarily as a summer vehicle. The vendor proudly notes that it has been fastidiously maintained, and is accompanied by a substantial history file including military records, workshop manual, illustrated parts catalogue, and equipment schedule.
