The Appeal
There are many flavours of Lancer Evo, but the VI has a special place in enthusiasts’ hearts. It was the last version, specifically built for WRC homologation, and the one in which Tommi won his fourth world driver’s title. It is perhaps not surprising, then, that the current long-term keeper of this GSR has kept it in dry storage and used it very sparingly in order to keep the mileage down to just 56,000 miles.
He has shown remarkable restraint because the VI GSR is by any reckoning one of the greatest sporting saloons of all time. Unlike the raw RS, the GSR is more suited to long road trips thanks to features like ABS, electric windows and more comfortable albeit figure-hugging Recaros.
Finished in silver with a two-tone interior, this low-mileage GSR is a genuine UK market RHD example that we are told has never been registered abroad. We are told that the engine and turbo are standard, but there are some desirable tweaks to the exhaust, fuelling, suspension, and brakes. The gearbox was rebuilt in 2004 by specialist Steve Hill Motorsport and the clutch replaced and upgraded in 2010.
The servicing records support the low mileage and show it ran to just under 56,000 miles in 2020, since when it has been in storage. This work included replacing the belts and tensioners. The car is out of MOT so will need to be trailered or renewed by the buyer before collection. A large number of desirable spares are included.
