The Belvedere was Plymouth’s top of the line production car from 1954 through to 1965, and it shows in every aspect of the design. From the curvy chrome front end to the long swept back tail fins and white-wall tyres this Belvedere is the epitome of American car design. The bright seafoam green of the paintwork is reflected on the inside with the seats, headlining, dashboards and carpets all matching beautifully.
We are told that the car was extensively restored prior to being imported by a previous owner and whilst there is no documentation for this it’s clearly been done to a very high standard. The car presents beautifully throughout and is ready to enjoy on the road, or it would make a fantastic show car. This is an excellent opportunity to own a real slice of Americana and it would make a fine addition to any collection.
Carpeting is in good condition with some light discolouration and signs of wear
All of the interior paintwork on the dashboard is in fantastic condition along with the interior brightwork
All of the gauges, dials and control present very well
Push button automatic gearbox controls
Opening the door of this Plymouth for the first time is like stepping back in time and to another continent. The style is instantly recognisable from numerous Hollywood films and embodies classic 50’s American car design. From the long bench seat, to the stylised dashboard and extensive use of chrome, the interior of this Plymouth is as cool as they come. The interior feels huge compared to modern European cars and combined with the velvety headlining and sculpted dashboard it feels every part the luxury car.
It’s in excellent condition throughout and the bench seats present superbly, with only a small ripple in the fabric of the driver's side to show any sign of use. That aside, the interior of this Plymouth looks like it rolled out of the factory months ago, not almost seventy years. This speaks to both the quality of the restoration we have been informed of and the subsequent care that must have been taken with this car.
Seafoam green and white colour scheme perfectly suits the 50’s design
The classic 50’s look is finished with whitewall tyres
Brightwork all presents excellently
Badges, light lenses, windows and trim are all in excellent condition
The exterior of the car perfectly matches the style of the interior; all long lines and bold curvy 50’s design. The classic shape and style is a perfect match for the seafoam green and white colour scheme and with the addition of the large amount of chrome, this is a car that really attracts attention wherever it goes. From the big stylised front end through to the whitewall tyres this car is an all American classic that is sure to impress wherever it goes.
The condition of the exterior of this Plymouth is exceptional throughout. We are informed that it had undergone extensive restoration by a previous owner, which is unfortunately undocumented, however it’s clear to see with even a cursory glance that it has been restored to an exceptionally high standard and that it has been meticulously maintained since. The bodywork is all in superb condition and the paintwork is fantastic with only the slightest signs of use visible if you look very closely. The brightwork is smooth and mirror-like throughout from the overriders to the window trim; it is all superb without any discernible patina or signs of ageing.
Starts easily and idles well with no unwanted noises
The owner reports that it drives as it should, accelerating well and stopping quickly
Engine and engine bay present excellently
Underside is outstanding condition with almost no visible signs of use
Whilst undocumented the car appears to have undergone extensive mechanical restoration in the past given how well it presents
The big V8 fires up easily and sounds superb through the twin exhausts, with no unwanted noises that we could hear. The engine and the surround engine bay both present superbly and the appearance of this car reflects the vendor informing us of the car having been fully restored prior to export. The autobox is controlled by push buttons to the left of the steering wheel and the vendor informs us that this works exactly as it should, and that the car as a whole drives very well.
All of the mechanical components that we could see present as all but brand new and the condition of the engine bay is easily show ready. The underside reflects the condition of the engine bay in that it is immaculate with very few signs of use visible, let alone anything that would indicate the age of the car. All of the visible chassis and running gear is smooth, clean and looks to be in excellent condition.
This Plymouth Belvedere would be a striking car anywhere in the world, but with the rarity of the big 50’s American cars here in Britain it’s all the more impressive when you see it. The design is big, showy and absolutely gorgeous, especially finished in seafoam green and in such fantastic condition. Speaking of which, this car presents exceptionally well throughout, with only the slightest signs of use and nothing to belie its true age asides from it’s distinctive styling.
Recently benefitting from a flat and polish the car looks fantastic from every angle, inside and out. If you’re looking for the best of American style in your next classic, look no further; this is it.
