The Appeal
The Cisitalia 202 is one of the most revered shapes in automotive history, a car whose lines were so pure that an example was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Of the original 202 Spiders, just 31 were handcrafted in period, and only nine are believed to survive, placing genuine examples firmly beyond reach for most collectors. When Cisitalia Automobili set about reviving the marque with a strictly limited run of 25 bespoke 202 SMM Nuvolari Spyder continuations, they needed an authentic physical benchmark from which to engineer the programme, and this is that car.
Built approximately two decades ago by the celebrated Argentine master metal-shaper Alain Baudena (Baufer), the coachwork was hand-wheeled in lightweight aluminium over a bespoke tubular spaceframe, working directly from technical blueprints drafted from a genuine 1947 Cisitalia 202 SMM. The result faithfully captures Giovanni Savonuzzi's aerodynamic Mille Miglia envelope body with millimetre-accurate geometry. Recognising this fidelity, Cisitalia Automobili acquired the car and subjected it to high-precision 3D laser scanning, using it as the foundational reference to blueprint frame architecture for the continuation programme. It subsequently served as the factory's premier press car, accumulating over 350 documented factory posts and earning an Octane Magazine feature along the way.
Presented in Rosso Corsa with fluted red period upholstery, split competition aeroscreens, and wire wheels, the car looks striking from every angle. It is powered by a 1,481cc Fiat Tipo 115 OHV inline-four wearing a polished Cisitalia Auto Italia cam cover, while front disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering are fitted in place of the period items. The vendor states the car is in very good condition throughout.
This is an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire "Car Zero", the verified physical link connecting post-war Argentine coachbuilding heritage with the modern Cisitalia continuation story. image_1790908813023~4 Martin Lane.jpeg265.13 KB

Finished in Rosso Corsa, the car wears hand-formed aluminium coachwork over a bespoke tubular spaceframe chassis, and the vendor states it is in very good condition throughout. Inside, fluted red upholstery in a period style is paired with pale-faced instrumentation, while split competition aeroscreens add to the authentic Mille Miglia look. Wire wheels complete the picture. Having served as the factory’s press car and been photographed and featured extensively, it has clearly been kept presentable.
Rack-and-pinion steering replacing period worm-and-roller arrangement
Power comes from a 1,481cc Fiat Tipo 115 OHV inline-four, topped with a polished Cisitalia Auto Italia cam cover. In a few places, the car departs from the original 202 specification in favour of more usable modern components. Front disc brakes replace the period drums, and rack-and-pinion steering replaces the original worm-and-roller arrangement. Both changes should make the car more approachable to drive than an original example.Screenshot_20261014_035739_Instagram~2 Martin Lane.jpg66.64 KB BEFORE YOU BUY
