EXTERIOR
Finished in a glossy coat of metallic silver the bodywork remains in excellent, rust-free condition. As a facelift model this example is easily identified by its later style headlamps and redesigned rear light clusters. The low mileage of 36k is well documented in the paperwork and is consistent with the car’s superb appearance. As with the body, the underside is notably clean and a real testament to the salt-free roads on which this Discovery resided from new.
INTERIOR
The airy cabin is equipped with two electric glass sunroofs and seven full size seats, with the second and third rows folding away completely for a huge rear load capacity. The seats are upholstered in dark grey alcantara trimmed with leather on the bolsters. Given the car’s low mileage there are few signs of wear to report, the upholstery still notably fresh. The remainder of the interior is very nice too; the dash and switchgear retain a clean appearance and the unmarked carpets are still protected in the footwells by a set of hardwearing Land Rover overmats.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 4-litre V8 idles up to temperature without fuss. With sufficient acceleration and plenty of torque on tap the Discovery delivers a refined driving experience, both on and off road. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a smooth four-speed automatic gearbox.
The under-bonnet area of this example is wonderfully clean. Despite the low mileage there are five recorded entries within the original maintenance booklet. In addition to these a fresh service and inspection has just been carried out at the current mileage. The MOT is valid until May 2019.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 16-inch alloys present very well with only minimal curb marking to report. They are finished in their factory coat of silver and are shod in a matching set of rugged Michelins. All tyres have plenty of tread remaining – the spare is unused – and on test the brakes do a fine job of pulling the car to a halt. Following a service and inspection the Land Rover has just been fitted with new rear brake pads, a new ABS sensor, and all new front ball joint dust covers at a cost of over £1k all in.
HISTORY FILE
The Discovery was first registered in April 2003. It was supplied new by Ichinomiya Land Rover in Japan where it resided until its recent import by 4 Star. Following a service, inspection, and MOT the car is now fully UK-registered with all taxes paid. The history file is complete with the original Land Rover book pack, owner’s manuals and dealer-supplied maintenance book. The service history is documented with entries at the following mileage intervals: 3k, 8k, 14k, 17k, 32k, and very recently at the current mileage of 36k.
