1959 Austin Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite.
A very tidy and original car retaining the 948cc engine and smooth case gearbox.
This is a genuine UK supplied car and not an import. It has been the subject of a restoration but remains a delightfully unmolested example.
It was resprayed two years ago in the correct Old English White which was original to this car. The paintwork presents extremely well and is contrasted perfectly by the dark red interior which is in excellent condition. The wood rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel adds a period sporting touch.
Recent expenditure includes a full tune and service, new galvanised fuel tank, sports coil, new front wheel brake cylinders and shoes, new tyres and a fresh MoT. We have just ahd the wheels refurbished.
The weather equipment is in perfect order – I doubt the hood has ever been used. The sidescreens have had new rubber seals fitted and the tonneau cover is also as new.
Under the bonnet all is clean and tidy. The engine features an ali rocker cover and a tuned exhaust system which sounds great and releases a few more precious horses. There is a rear mounted ‘pusher’ fuel pump fitted in the interest of reliability.
The engine starts easily from cold and on the road the Sprite feels taught and drives extremely well. On the backroads which this car was designed for, it is huge fun to drive and a willing performer. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
There is a large history file with the car with all invoices and MoT’s going back to the early 2000s. Also present are some handbooks including an original BMC issued Workshop Manual.
Good Frogeyes have become very desirable and this car is competitively priced for such a nice example.
