This 1957 Porsche 356A 1600 S Coupé is a rare Type 1 ½ model, which presents itself in the original delivery color "Orange 5711", which was a special 1957 paint job. The interior is made of black artificial leather. The vehicle was delivered 1957 as a new car to the USA. 11 years ago it was found in very good condition in a barn (barn find !!). The 356 was in the possession of two brothers for most of its life and spent many decades dry stored in a hall in Scottsdale (Arizona/ USA), which undoubtedly contributed to its excellent condition.
The 356 was sold a few years ago to Great Britain, where it was professionally restored by the renowned Porsche specialists and restorers Sportswagen Ltd. from Essex (U. K.) and P. R. Services Ltd. also from Essex (U. K.). The work was very extensive and included the complete dismantling and sanding of the body, the painting of the body in the original delivery colour, the complete reconditioning and new covering of the seats as well as the carpets and the revision of the engine, transmission and all chassis parts. In the course of the work it was decided to replace the original crankshaft with a much more reliable one. The engine work also included the installation of more powerful pistons and cams, the installation of a high-performance aluminium oil cooler and the overhaul of the original Zenith carburettors.
Almost all body and chassis parts, the mechanics and even the Lemmerz steel rims with embossed date and the wheel caps were used. The engine and gearbox are "matching numbers" and match the Porsche birth certificate.
The restoration was documented by an extensive photo documentation (several hundred photos).
The car presents itself in an excellently restored condition and yet radiates a very original charm.
