EQUIPMENT
Tubular twin cradle frame with triangle braces, telescopic front forks, twin rear shocks, chrome front mudguard, chrome side repeaters, side reflectors, speedometer, tachometer, capacitor discharge ignition (CDI), turn signal switch, headlight switch, engine stop switch, high beam light, horn, rear footrests, fuel valve, centre stand, side stand, rear grab bar, seat lock, helmet holder, neutral indicator, rear brake lining wear indicator.
MODEL HISTORY
The Kawasaki 750 Mach IV H2 was part of the iconic Kawasaki ‘Triple’ range produced from 1968 to 1980 with motorcycles ranging from 250-750cc, the more powerful 750 H2 model being nicknamed ‘Widow Maker’ owing to Kawasaki’s penchant for producing large engine bikes but still with skinny tyres, flimsy frames and inadequate brakes! Renowned as the ultimate full on Triple experience, the incredibly thirsty ‘king of the streets’ 750 Mach IV H2 was eventually discontinued having succumbed to an impending oil crisis and strict incoming safety regulations, factors that would bring an end to a generation of raw and industry changing motorcycles.
EXTERIOR
The most desirable of all the 750 triples and the meteor of the TriStars is this early 750 Mach IV H2 model finished in striking Pearl Candy Blue. This was one of only two colour options available for the 1972 model year, the other being Pearl Candy Gold. This matching numbers US example entered the UK in 1993 and still has the correct US specification features such as a front sealed beam on the headlamp, side reflectors and the aluminium front brake master cylinder. All components are in remarkable order and the chassis and engine numbers clearly visible for inspection. Distinctive decals with the upswept lines to the rear inform onlookers of this early bikes status and the factory fitted seat, grips and rubbers can all be described as excellent. A repair to the fuel tank is out of sight. A truly iconic example of the Kawasaki’s that took the 1970’s biking world by storm.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The three cylinder two-stroke air-cooled engine has a 748cc displacement and produces 74bhp at 6800rpm. A standing start ¼ mile of 12 seconds was quoted along with a claimed top speed of 126mph. Features such as the capacitor discharge ignition (CDI) remain exactly as the manufacturer intended. The 5-speed ‘all up’ constant mesh transmission with wet multiplate clutch moves freely. Please note although purchased as a roadworthy example by the current owner in 2010 the bike has been used for display purposes since and will require recommissioning.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
This stunning example retains its beautiful original chrome wire wheels to uphold the classic look and are shod in matching Continental Super Twin 3. 25 -19 up front and 4. 00 - 19 to the rear. The braking system is the standard 295mm single front disc with a 203mm rear drum which has the working wear indicator.
HISTORY FILE
This early model 750 Mach IV H2 example was manufactured in 1972 and supplied to the US market. Of the four model years the H2, H2A, H2B and H2C it is this 1972 H2 which collectors favour due to the raw credentials later tamed in subsequent years. Imported to the UK in 1993, the bike has had just four former keepers, the previous being Mr Chris Harvey who has cherished it since 2010 forming part of an iconic Kawasaki Triple collection. Owned and sold by knowledgeable and devoted industry expert, Rick Brett, Mr Harvey snapped this example up when seeing it featured in the May 2010 Classic Motorcycle Mechanics seven page feature. It evens features on the front page popping a wheelie! Previous MOT certificates, old tax discs and registration documents along with the magazine feature complete the history file. A rare unmissable opportunity indeed!
