Description

The above car has a unique history in the annals of Shelby American products .
The car started life as a direct collaboration between Carroll Shelby and Adrian Reynard of Indy car and BAR formula 1 fame .
The car was originally stated to have started life with an Oldsmobile V10 ( actually a Viper prototype) work was completed in 1991 and the finished article was sent to Shelby in America for evaluation. The car underwent many stringent tests including timed runs against the clock, reliability runs and everyday driving by Shelby himself.

Shelby had retained all rights to the Cobra and was thus able to use the CSX Chassis numbers. CSX-R4010 is unique in having the Shelby chassis plate number registering "R" signifying research and is duly recorded in the Shelby bible as a "Shelby 427 s/ c"

During 1994 the car was fitted with a lightweight Ford 302 unit to improve torque and driveability of the car , it went on to win class records at Nashville speedway for the 1/ 4 mile at 11. 4 secs driven by Bob Bundarant and has been signed by him on the bulkhead. Later that year the car was shipped back to the UK and converted to RHD at the factory.

In 1995 the car was given a blast up the hill at Goodwood by Phil Hill and Carroll Shelby where he signed the dashboard.

While the performance delivered is devestating, the car remains completely tractable, sitting at idle at 650 rpm without fluffing or overheating.
