Description
This very low mileage and remarkably original Rover was bought by an Edinburgh owner in 1989. The following year he had the engine rebuilt using +20 pistons, new main and big-end bearings and new exhaust valves. In 1992 the front suspension was overhauled.
851 CYK has covered a total mileage from new is 81, 000, under 11, 000 in the past 30 years. The last owner has a large collection and the Rover has only 1000 miles of use since 2010. It has now been re-commissioned and although M. O. T. exempt has been submitted for and passed an new MOT.
The history file shows inner wheel arch and valance repairs, competently carried out in the early 2000s and unusually for a P4 there is no evidence of B post repairs. Although the car would benefit from some minor paintwork improvements, given its age and level of originality it presents very well. On the road, the engine is smooth and lively, the gearbox is quiet and synchros work well. A very good value car, ready to enjoy as is, but with some scope for cosmetic improvement. The car comes with a beautiful original factory brochure and a large history file showing evidence that this very smart P4 was valued at £4, 000 by the P4 Driver's Guild 24 years ago!
